There are three types of groups, Resource Groups, Web User Groups and Manager User Groups. These are created in the Manager Permissions and Web Permissions items of the Security menu.

User groups are for users, either for viewing front-end pages or for working with resources and TVs in the Manager.

Resource groups are for resources. Resource groups created in either Manager Permissions or Web Permissions work with both types of user groups; there is only one type of Resource group.

Manager User Groups

When using manager user groups linked to resource groups, a manager user assigned a group can only work with resources that are either not assigned to any group, or are assigned to the group linked to the resource's resource group.

To create a Manager Group, go to Security -> Manager Permissions.

Security Menu

Create a new User Group in the field and save. You can also edit and delete existing groups. A list of users assigned to each group is provided.

Resource Groups

Open the Resource Groups tab, and create a new resource group in the same manner. Resource groups created here can also be used in the Web Permissions section.

User/Resource Group Links

The third tab, User/Resource Group Links, is where the magic happens. Until a resource group is linked to a user group, nothing happens. You can assign users to user groups and resources to resource groups all day, and until they are linked it won't make any difference. Once a resource is assigned to a resource group linked to a user group, only users assigned to a linked user group can access it. Manager users assigned the Administrator role, however, can always access all resources in the Manager.

There are two select drop-downs, one for user groups and one for resource groups. Select the user group you wish to link, and then select the resource group you want it to be linked to. A list of user groups is shown, with a list of resource groups linked to them. A user group can be linked to more than one resource group.

Linking User and Resource groups

Web Permissions

Web user groups are created and managed in exactly the same way as are Manager User Groups. They use the same Resource Groups; any Resource Groups created in the Manager Permissions form will be shown in the Web Permissions forms, and vice verse.

Assigning a Resource to a Resource Group

Once there are Resource Groups created, these will be listed as check boxes when managing resources. In Evo 1.0.5, this can be done in the resource's Access Permissions tab.

Access Permissions Tab

To assign a resource to one or more groups, just check the boxes. The default group is "All Resource Groups (Public)", which means everybody can access this resource, both from the Manager and as a public user on the front-end. Its check box will automatically be cleared if any other boxes are checked, and it will be checked if no other boxes are checked.

Template Variables

Template Variables can also be assigned to resource groups, and like resources, only users belonging to a group linked to the TV's assigned groups can work with them. So even if a manager user can work with a given resource, if a TV is assigned a different group, the manager user won't even see the TV when editing the resource.
